The Opportunity

We are looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Primary Care Team at CUPS.

As a Primary Care LPN at CUPS, you will be responsible for providing trauma-informed nursing care to clients who are potentially experiencing the adverse effects of poverty, trauma and chronic illness. In your role, you will work to the full scope of your LPN practice and assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document all nursing care of patients in accordance with policies and professional nursing standards. You will play a primary role in supporting an integrated and holistic and client-centered approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

CUPS LPNs support the creation of safe and trauma informed health environment for clients and their families. You will provide quality patient care while promoting the shared mission, vision and values of CUPS.

  • Location: 1001 10 Ave SW, Calgary, and outreach within the community
  • Reports to: Team Lead, Clinical Services
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
  • Starting hourly rate: $27.87 to $29.25

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver health care within the CUPS Primary Care clinic in accordance with CLPNA standards, CUPS policies, and individual scope of competence
  • Perform delegated and independent nursing functions including phlebotomy and point-of-care testing
  • Provide client-centered care to people we serve, including those who use substances, using risk reduction, trauma-informed, and culturally safe approaches
  • Conduct physical and mental health assessments, identify client needs, and contribute to care planning in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Support clients with acute and chronic health conditions including mental health, substance use, communicable diseases, and general health concerns
  • Complete pre-appointment chart reviews, including review of Telus CHR, Alberta Netcare, lab results, and discharge summaries
  • Document all assessments, interventions, and client interactions in Telus CHR in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client health records, including diagnoses, medications, and care plans
  • Coordinate follow-up for lab results, diagnostic testing, and referrals, and support client navigation to internal and external services
  • Conduct routine screening (e.g., STBBI, mental health, substance use, prenatal as applicable) and identify missed screening opportunities
  • Provide client education related to health conditions, screening, treatment, risk reduction, and prevention
  • Administer medications and treatments within scope and CUPS protocols (e.g., immunizations, injections, wound care)
  • Support clinic flow including rooming clients, completing pre-assessments, and assisting providers during appointments
  • Maintain and monitor clinical equipment and report maintenance or repair needs (e.g., ECG machine, fetal monitors, oxygen tanks, vaccine fridge)
  • Ensure best practices in infection prevention and control are followed
  • Maintain standards for vaccine storage, handling, and administration in alignment with provincial guidelines
  • Maintain competency in phlebotomy and lab processes in alignment with CUPS and Alberta Precision Laboratories standards
  • Recognize and escalate clinical concerns or complex cases to RN, NP, or physician as appropriate
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, team huddles, and program development activities
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain required competencies and contact hours
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards (e.g., WHMIS, OH&S, MSDS)
